A Whale of a Tale from Seaview, WA to Newport, OR... 8/17-18

August 17-18, 2019

At the end of the day’s travels we felt like we had been through two different days. The morning into early afternoon was overcast and the scenery appeared moody and mystical. By the time we reached Boiling Bay, the sunshine came through and we started seeing gray whales close into shore along with dramatic cliffs, sea stacks and gigantic waves. Picture postcard beautiful! From one bend to the next nature’s paintbrush was unleashed in such dramatic and virtuoso fashion that it virtually took your breath away. By the time we got to our charming Inn on Nye Beach we were transported by Oregon’s coastline.

These views never got old...

These sights weren't uncommon as we came down the Oregon coast

Fort Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark spent the winter. They named the Fort after the local natives

We were surprised by how small the fort actually was!

Talking about togetherness...WOW!!!

Inside the Visitor's Center

Once again, they needed a good woman to keep them alive

So hard to keep track, but this one might be called Haystack?

A new form of Graffitti, stickers...pretty cool...

Rodea Point

Boiling Bay, Oregon

Loved the cloud reflections in this pond by the ocean
"There she blows"
Mike captured the Fluke here...YEAH!!!
And Here!!!

So many Oregon views were like postcards...Boiling Bay

There was a pod of gray whales hanging in close here...we couldn't stop watching them.

Otter Crest State Park

Mike tries to get as close as he can to photograph. You can see him off to the left

Looking to Yaquina Head Lighthouse in the distance

So pretty ;but as we got closer the sandflies almost ate us alive...thankfully, Off worked!

A memorial for those lost at sea...

Thought the winds were going to blow us into the ocean...WOW

Loved all the seabirds hanging out here

Newport, Oregon

And, here blows this one!!!

That large gray shape in the upper left is the back of a gray whale

To the left/middle is a gray whale; not another rock

Here you can see his side pectoral fin coming up as he ate

Here you can see him in action

Nye Beach in front of our Inn

We loved the fireplace in our room at night

Our balcony view to the parking lot, hot tub, fire pits and our beach access...lovely!!!

Mike found Sorella’s Italian Restaurant a quick walk away. After another wonderful dinner with a lovely Oregon Pinot Noir.

We had a wonderful Italian three course meal, deliciouso!!!
This Pinot Noir that they had on special was fabulous as well!!!

The Inn’s hot tub and fire pits were fairly packed; so we enjoyed our ocean view balcony and our fireplace, as the sunset for the day.

AH...Thank you God, Jesus, Buddha, Whomever...
