So, was the world sending out vibes this morning??? LOL They were on our restaurant table.
There are plains for miles and these buttes rise out of them. Crazy looking...it turns out a butte is a hill that rises out of the area around it with steep sides and a flat top but it’s narrower than a mesa. Passed through Arco, ID, the first city to be lite by nuclear power. Who knew???
Craters of the Moon National Park
We have been here before but it’s such a surreal place we stopped again. It was so packed that we couldn’t get into the visitors center. The movie was so cool because you saw that there was a tremendous amount of life here; despite what one would think looking at the vistas.
Spatter cones actually have snow inside even through the summer
Mike was making his way back down again
Volcanic cone reminds you of a cinder dune.
Cinder garden with lichen blooming with surprisingly large wasps buzzing about...even the evergreens are specially adapted to this area.
Since we couldn’t get into the visitor center we didn’t have the cave permit for Mike to go in. I’m not a cave person; especially if I have to share it with bats. I’m fine with bats; as long as I don’t have to share space with them. Yikes!
This park would be amazing to photograph at sunrise/sunset. The trees and rock formations have such drama to them. The park is enormous, but they only have a small section open to the public.
So great to catch up with great friends, Denny and Susan!!!Especially, when we don’t get to see them often. It was great relaxing and unwinding with them. No sightseeing this time, just relaxing and catching up. Love Boise though, it seems to get cooler & more hip each time we come.
We hadn’t had a pizza in weeks. The Flying Pie Pizza was a delicious and fun choice!!!
Thanks Denny and Susan!
